Sustainability is a shared global commitment. As a popular brand, Fubon Life Insurance prioritizes the well-being of our stakeholders as well as that of society at large. We offer our customers protection, savings, annuity, accident insurance and health insurance, but our mission goes beyond providing services. Our goal is to proactively address ESG and climate-related risks and opportunities, support the industry’s transition to low-carbon operations, and foster a sustainable financial ecosystem. We are committed to initiatives that promote environmental protection, health and financial education.

Our efforts were rewarded when we were named Taiwan’s Best Life Insurance Company in the Global Finance Awards 2024 for the 13th consecutive year. Our efforts were also recognized in the Financial Supervisory Commission’s (FSC) Sustainable Finance 2023 Assessment, where we were ranked among the top five in the insurance industry. Through a number of initiatives, we aim to leverage our corporate influence to drive the sustainable transformation of industries and create a better future for all.

Balancing act
At Fubon Life, we strive to balance profitability and sustainability, demonstrating our long-term commitment to sustainable operations and corporate governance. As of June 2024, we have reached a record monthly net income of NT$13.71 billion (over $420 million). This is the highest profit in our history in June, with a net asset ratio exceeding the legal minimum by more than three percent and a solvency ratio of more than 300 percent.

We aim to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society

While celebrating these successes, we continued to focus on sustainability. In 2023, our ESG-themed investments reached approximately NT$2.44 billion (over $75 billion), accounting for more than half of our total investment assets, with green purchases totaling NT$150 million. NT dollars (more than $4.6 million). Led by the Board of Directors, our Sustainability Committee implements sustainability policies from the top down, linking ESG factors to board and senior management performance evaluations.

So how do we address key sustainability issues? Our efforts span several initiatives, particularly in conservation and the environment. We are the first Taiwanese company to focus on river waste issues; In partnership with the Society of Wilderness, we support various river conservation projects, including tree planting and watershed protection initiatives. Since 2024, the company has carried out rapid screening of river waste from Wu River in Taichung, Touqian River in Hsinchu, Tamsui River in Greater Taipei, Houjin River in Kaohsiung, and Beigang River in Yunlin.

These efforts span five counties and five rivers, with plans to further expand the initiative. This project was recognized by the Global Views ESG Corporate Sustainability Awards 2024, where we won first place in the Environmental Friendly category. We are proud to be the only life insurance company in Taiwan to receive this award.

Achieve goals
We recognize, however, that sustainability is not just about the environment. We also devote resources to solving hidden problems such as the urban-rural divide and the unequal distribution of resources in Taiwan. By advancing various inclusive financial initiatives, we aim to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society, fulfilling our corporate social responsibility objectives at a critical time for sustainable development.

At the same time, we draw on our core expertise to realize our vision of “insurance for all”. Through our financial and insurance knowledge promotion program, we have successfully extended insurance education from the general public to university and high school students.

In partnership with the Taiwan Financial Literacy and Education Association, Fubon Life has organized more than 100 financial literacy classes for high school students, helping them develop an understanding of insurance protection and financial awareness. We also continue to release our video series, “Those Who Keep Moving Forward,” using real stories from policyholders to engage and resonate with audiences, effectively communicating the importance and purpose of insurance. These efforts were recognized by the Financial Supervisory Commission’s first Contribution to Financial Education Awards, where we were proud to receive the Excellence Award for Best Collaboration.

Recognizing that fraud has become a serious social problem, we have also actively collaborated with the public and private sectors to raise public awareness about fraud. In partnership with the Taipei City Government, we launched the Anti-Fraud Campaign in 12 administrative districts, raising awareness of common fraud schemes and creating a national fraud prevention network. We believe these efforts are consistent with our duty as an insurer to protect the public. Enriching lives is at the heart of what we do, and we intend to continue to lead the way in sustainable and inclusive finance as we move into the future and tackle the key challenges ahead.
