WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who says he won July’s presidential election and is recognized by many countries as president-elect, said on Monday he had a productive meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and is in contact with the U.S. president. – Choose Donald Trump.
Gonzalez’s visit to Washington is part of a regional tour, days before President Nicolás Maduro, who has been recognized as the winner by Venezuela’s highest court and electoral authorities, is set to be inaugurated for a third term.
“We had a long, productive and cordial conversation with President Biden and his team,” Gonzalez told reporters after the meeting at the White House. “Our team is in contact with President Trump’s team.
He looks forward to interacting with the Trump administration, Gonzalez added.
